My name is Emily and I am 14 years old. I’m supporting an event that I will be participating in this summer, called the Jettride. The Jettride raises awareness and money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. On July 22nd, I will leave for a week+ long adventure on my bike through Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. The route that I will be doing is nearly 500 miles long and I will finish on July 30th. I am participating in this because I want to help close friends and family who have this disorder because I can see how hard they are stuggling.
My brother, Calvin, was dignosed with Duchenne when he was 5, and stopped walking at age 12. Now he is struggling to maintain the use of his arms. Duchenne is a progressive muscle wasting condition that ultimately affects the heart, a muscle too. Together as a family we have faced many challenges and hard times, but we have never given up and we continue to push foward. Because of these experiences, I want to support my brother and the other amazing people with Duchenne that I have met.
Previously, I have played a part in helping fundraise for Duchenne by participating in triathlons and other road races, but this is a whole new experience for me that I am extremely excited to participate in. This is something very different than I’m used to and I think this experience will make me better as a person.
I am hoping that you will support my ride and the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy community with a donation. All donations are tax deductable and will be supporting the Jett Foundation. You can make an online donation here on my page. This is an easy, safe and secure way of donating. If you prefer, you can write a check made payable to Jett Foundation. Please mail it to me, Emily Quitzau, 60 Gilbert St, Mansfield, Massachusetts 02048. Please include my name on the check.
